Calvin spent the past week in 9am-5pm Band Camp at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Tonight was the night for small group ensemble performances. Cal was told he needed to play a "real" band instrument in order to participate in the Jazz portion of the camp with his guitar, so he chose the drums. He plays a mean drum on the Wii, and he's got rhythm...why not?
His mom, the self-trained air-drummer, is so jealous! Cal played one piece on tom-toms, and one piece on the African Djembe drum.
The Jazz Band played three pieces tonight, and Calvin was the only person on guitar. Personally, I think he should have turned up the amp a bit...but I always say that. For only five days of practice, these kids put on a terrific show.
Tomorrow morning Calvin has one more practice session, then the full band performs in the afternoon. He'll play the drums for that. We're looking forward to another great show!
