Late-Night Composing

Calvin is writing the music for a play his Latin class is doing. His classmates will perform his work during the show. This is just the start, but he's writing for violin, viola, guitar, contrabass, timpani and snare drum. I'm not sure he realizes this is an unusual undertaking for an 8th grader. Proud mama here.

I sure hope you will be able to tape that when it is performed and share it with proud grandparents!! (The musical score, that is)

This poem was found in my 96 year old Grandfather's wallet after he passed in 2008. It was written in 1965 by Walter D. Wintle.

"The Man Who Thinks He Can"

If you think you are beaten, you are,

If you think that you dare not, you don't,

If you'd like to win, but you think you can't

It's almost certain you won't.

If you think you'll lose, you're lost.

For out in the world you'll find,

Success begins with a fellow's will,

It's all in the state of mind.

If you think you are outclassed, you are,
